World Series Final Game Captures 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51 million watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball stated this represents the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable game drew 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% increase over the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total US viewership was 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen different tongues.
